Important Notice: Microsoft Teams Rooms Device Licensing Changes

E3/E5 Licensing no longer supported on Microsoft Teams Rooms.

On September 6, 2022, Microsoft introduced Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro and Basic licenses. As part of this announcement, we also shared an important update about the use of M365/O365 (i.e., A, E, G) user subscription licenses for Teams Rooms deployments.

As of July 1st 2023, Microsoft Teams Room devices will no longer support the use of E3/E5 user licenses for room resource accounts signing into Teams.  Any Teams Room systems using E3/E5 licensing will need to be migrated to a Teams Rooms Pro license or a Teams Shared Device License (depending on the system) by EOD on June 30th, 2023 or the Microsoft Teams Rooms system will NOT WORK the next day.

The policy also includes devices enrolled in the Pro Management portal. A Teams Rooms Pro or Teams Rooms legacy Premium license will be required to take advantage of the AI-powered cross-platform device management capabilities and Admin portal.

To assist our customers in this transition, Microsoft has prepared resources to help you understand the changes and make the necessary updates to your licenses. We’re providing both a simple step-by-step process for checking small batches of devices and an automated script for checking licenses in bulk to help update your licenses to Pro or Basic, making the transition as smooth as possible.
