SCREENING ROOM DESIGN AND INTEGRATION DELIVERS VITAL CAPABILITIES FOR MEDIA COMPANY

When Legendary Entertainment, a global entertainment company, relocated to new headquarters in the heart of Burbank’s Media District, they partnered with architect Felderman Keatinge & Associates (FKA), general contracor Taslimi Construction and technology integrator Diversified. The technology portion of the contract included new screening room design and integration as well as audio-visual systems for a high-end conference room, a video effects room, and an IPTV system.

The lease was expiring on Legendary’s existing space which dictated a hard completion date and a moderately short, 8-month time frame in which to design and integrate the new facilities. This also meant that tenant improvement construction would occur simultaneously with systems integration. Diversified’s screening room design and integration as well as the AV systems met Legendary’s technical requirements and blended with FKA’s contemporary design for the modern headquarters.

To meet the compressed timeline, Diversified:

  • Worked closely with the general contractor to schedule technology integration in conjunction with, and around, other trades
  • Allocated manpower from its Burbank and Northern California offices to complete the project on time

The high-end screening room was central to the project and posed challenges with proper mounting of the 260 lb. Christie digital cinema projector. Vibration-isolation was difficult to achieve for either floor mount (a typical 4” concrete slab on steel deck) or ceiling mount (with roof mounted HVAC equipment). The ceiling mount approach was eventually selected with Diversified building a special 800 lb. rig and installing a custom vibration-damped mount to provide a stable platform for the projector.

For the conference room, screening room, video effects room, and an IPTV system; Diversified selected and integrated the following partners:

  • Crestron was selected to provide control systems in all the conference rooms and the screening room
  • Telepresence equipment was provided by Polycom
  • 7.1 surround sound from Meyer Sound
  • Custom lectern and director’s console built by Laguna Designs

Legendary now has the technical systems in their new headquarters to support their growing film, television, digital media and virtual reality business and Diversified as a technology partner to support their ongoing technical needs.
