Diversified was engaged by Multiplex to undertake the comprehensive design, supply and installation of cutting-edge visual, control and public address systems across the 60,000-capacity Optus Stadium. The stadium houses sports and coaching facilities, complete media and broadcasting infrastructures, premium patron areas including 100 private suites, bars and dining amenities and large function and conference rooms.
The overarching system is comprised of several subsystems within the complex AV environment and a significant component of the project was the public address (PA) systems. The main bowl PA took careful technical and structural consideration. Using EASE modeling the Nexo GEO S12 system was deployed with 18 line arrays installed around the bowl, suspended from the tip of the 45-meter high stadium roof. Diversified designed and manufactured a savvy custom mobile dolly that is housed on the roof, allowing the line arrays to be lowered down for maintenance.
With a full roster of AFL, cricket, rugby (league and union) and soccer matches, the stadium’s broadcasting capabilities are fundamental. The backbone cabling integrates the in-house AV production facilities, as well as the OB compound; main control room; live-to-air and studio camera operations; and radio frequencies for microphones and communications technology. To future-proof the broadcast facilities, a fiber infrastructure was incorporated, operating across expansive cabling distances and supporting high-bandwidth broadcasting.
The premium sports team facilities needed robust audio and video links between the coaches’ briefing rooms, home and away coaches’ boxes and team warm-up rooms, which are powered by Crestron and geared for operational success on mission critical ‘game-days’. What takes this project above-and-beyond the ordinary was Diversified’s forward thinking approach and the value it placed in the stadium’s key objective to provide the best in fan experiences.
