Turning Vision into Reality

Dave Schwarz tends to get the projects that make people stop and ask, "How are we going to do that?"

As a Principal Engineer at Diversified, he's often brought in when a project involves new technology, unique requirements or a challenge that's never been tackled before. A lot of his work starts with an idea that sounds great on paper but hasn't been proven in the real world yet. His job is figuring out what it will take to make it work—and making sure it works reliably.

Solving What's Never Been Done Before

One of Dave's biggest projects involved helping design and deliver one of the most advanced live event production environments ever built.

At the time, much of the technology was new. UHD, HDR and IP-based workflows were still emerging, and many of the systems being used had never been integrated together before. There wasn't a playbook to follow. Every decision carried risk, and every piece of the system had to work.

Years later, the environment continues to support some of the largest sporting events, concerts and live productions in the world. For Dave, that's what matters most. New technology is exciting, but only if it's dependable.

Thinking Before Building

A lot of Dave's work happens before anyone touches a piece of equipment.

He spends a significant amount of time thinking through scenarios, identifying potential problems and testing ideas before a project reaches implementation. Construction schedules are tight, budgets are real and there usually isn't time for trial and error once a project is underway.

The goal is simple: find the problems before they become problems.

Balancing Vision and Reality

Not every idea can be built exactly as imagined.

Part of Dave's role is helping clients understand what's possible today, what might be possible tomorrow and where compromise makes sense. Sometimes that compromise is technical. Sometimes it's operational or financial.

The goal isn't to say no. It's to find a path that delivers the experience clients want while creating something reliable enough to trust long-term.

Building for Scale

As media and broadcast environments continue to evolve, Dave sees network-based video systems creating new opportunities for flexibility and growth.

For larger organizations, these technologies make it easier to scale across facilities, campuses and distributed operations. Systems can grow and adapt over time instead of being locked into a fixed design from day one.

It's not the right solution for every project, but when scalability matters, it opens up possibilities that weren't practical just a few years ago.

Never the Same Challenge Twice

What Dave enjoys most about his work is that every project is different.

One day he's evaluating new technology. The next he's helping solve a problem no one has encountered before. The constant variety keeps him learning, experimenting and finding new ways to approach challenges.

For someone who enjoys figuring things out, it's hard to imagine a better job.
