Lincoln Financial Field Upgrades Audio System for Seating Bowl

Diversified and Fulcrum Acoustics work together to improve Eagles’ sound system in phases.

Home to the Philadelphia Eagles, Lincoln Financial Field has undergone a major upgrade to its audio system for the seating bowl. In addition to Eagles’ football, the Stadium regularly hosts the Temple University Owls, the Army-Navy game and many soccer games each season. For this reason, the Philadelphia Eagles sought to improve the audio performance within the stadium to continually ‘wow’ the many visitors it hosts each year.

“The fan experience across the NFL has been improving for a number of years,” said Jeff Sanderson, senior design engineer at Diversified. “A lot of teams are renovating or building new stadiums. The Eagles wanted Lincoln Financial Field to sound as good or better than anything else in the NFL. Speech intelligibility and musical experience is a critical part of that.”

Diversified proposed a Fulcrum Acoustic-based solution for the system upgrade, knowing that the combination of output, fidelity and control would provide the solution that the Eagles were seeking. Jeff Sanderson used EASE modeling software to design the new sound system and worked with the team to pre-fabricate rigging structures for fast installation. Fulcrum and Diversified worked closely together to avoid conflicts with the stadium’s schedule and complete the installation in the off seasons in phases comprising the Upper Seating Deck, the Club Level and Lower Seating Deck, and finally, the end zones and fill speakers.

The delay of the 2020 pandemic postponed a portion of that year’s work. Nevertheless, Diversified proceeded with installation of approximately 160 customized loudspeakers to provide coverage for seats shaded from the main system.
