In-Warranty replacement of VitalSign units beyond 90 days will be facilitated via depot repair.
Is there a recommended temperature range to which the tablet should be set?
The VitalSign tablet will be delivered with a preset temperature range of __ to __ degrees Celsius. This is the recommended temperature range for general use, however this range may be adjusted to accommodate extenuating circumstances.
How can the VitalSign unit be disinfected to prevent cross-contamination after it has been touched?
The VitalSign tablet and thermal sensor should be disinfected using an antibacterial screen cleaner. The tablet should NOT be disinfected by spraying any sort of cleaner directly onto the unit and should ONLY be disinfected using cleaners specifically designed for electronics and screens
Is there a time delay or reset period between temperature scans?
No. The VitalSign temperature system is designed so that once an incoming visitor sees their temperature result and moves out of range of the thermal sensor, the next person will be detected and scanned. Each scan takes approximately 1-2 seconds per person.
Can the tablet be operated (change settings, power on/off, etc.) through a mirrored monitor or by using separate mouse and keyboard?
The VitalSign tablet can be controlled using a separate mouse and keyboard only if they are plugged in to the USB ports on the VitalSign tablet directly. External mouse and keyboard connected to an external monitor will not work to operate the VitalSign tablet.
Does the VitalSign thermal sensor detect accurate temperatures through plexiglass barriers or plastic face shields?
No, the VitalSign thermal sensor will give inaccurate temperature readings if there is any sort of barrier between the sensor and the incoming visitor, including transparent material such as plexiglass. VitalSign needs a clear line of sight between the thermal sensor and the person being scanned in order to guarantee accurate results.
How effective is the camera at detecting accurate temperature through head/face coverings (hijab, medical mask, etc.)?
The VitalSign thermal sensor requires a clear line of sight to some portion of a person’s face to get an accurate temperature reading. If an incoming visitor has their entire face covered, they may need to adjust their head/face coverings to get an accurate temperature reading from the VitalSign unit. If the head/face coverings cannot be adjusted for medical, religious, or cultural reasons, another method of temperature-taking may need to be utilized to confirm that the visitor’s temperature is within the acceptable range.
Are there any scenarios in which the system could generate inaccurate results?
There are some environmental and biological factors that may affect an individual person’s temperature results from the VitalSign tablet. Biological factors such as sunburn or sweat on the skin may skew temperature results. Environmental factors that may affect temperature results include situations where a person spends a significant amount of time in a much hotter/colder environment just before receiving their VitalSign temperature scan.
In the event that an elevated skin temperature is detected, the person’s temperature should be checked with an approved medical thermometer to confirm their internal temperature. Absence of an elevated skin temperature does not preclude a fever.
How many consecutive hours can the VitalSign tablet run without breaks? Does the tablet need to be powered on/off every morning/night?
The VitalSign tablet is designed to run 24 / 7 / 365 and does not need to be powered off every night. The system may momentarily power off to install software updates but will power back on and continue functioning immediately afterwards.
Is there an option to store the data of people checked? If yes, how far back?
VitalSign currently logs date, time and reading of each scan and stores that data on a rolling 90 days basis. VitalSign does not capture biometric or individual data. Correlating reading and time-stamp data to individuals would be performed though integrations with Access Control, Visitor Management or Human Capital Management systems.
How is the durability of the panel? If it were mounted on a floor stand and fell over, would it break?
VitalSign is commercially rated, but not an I.P. rates or ruggedized device. Like any electronic solution, these devices are subject to damage with enough impact. Diversified can source alternate mounting solutions specific to client requirements.
Does VitalSign need internet to function?
VitalSign does not need to be connected to the internet for the thermal sensor to register and generate a reading. Connectivity will be required to enable device management, support remote OS, Security and Firmware patch delivery, and enable interoperability with 3rd party platforms and Content Management or Analytics software platforms.
Are Professional Install Services required to get VitalSign set in a client’s environment?
VitalSign setup is as easy as setting up any other device on a client’s network. For the Pedestal and desktop mount options, this can easily be performed by the client themselves by following the included Quick-Start guide and if necessary, referencing our full setup manual hosted on our VitalSign Support Website. Wall-mount options may require Professional Install services, consistent with a Room Booking sign or standard Wall-Mount display install. These services are available upon request.
The Thermal Scan result currently exposes results to public view. Does this create issues with Privacy concerns and risks with HIPA compliance?
VitalSign and how each client ultimately determines acceptable use in their environment is currently widely varied, however this application likely falls under the interest of ensuring public safety and security, which typically supersedes privacy concerns (ie: Airport Security Gates). For future iterations, we expect to be able to obscure scanning results if desired, by overwriting the primary VitalSign screen’s display with Digital Signage content, delivering results via QR codes and other discrete notifications, and sending alerts to alternate platforms. Please reference U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission guidance issued March 21, 2020 cites COVID-19 guidance from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) related to ADA-covered employers.
Is the unit able to detect people of different heights (e.g. children, adults 3‘ to 6.5’)?
There’s a visible sensor and a camera that will show your face on the LCD screen. Within the effective scanning range, the sensor should pick up the face, though in extreme cases the tablet might need to be adjusted.
Can VitalSign integrate with printer systems?
Yes, On the roadmap via ReAX device control integration. Client-side API software development may be required.
Can the sensor be affixed to a door, away from the tablet that collects data?
The sensor must be affixed to the tablet at this time.
How does the alert message work? Are there display and sound alerts?
On the display screen, it will show the person’s face and current temperature. If it senses a temperature higher than what has been set as normal, the tablet will show red and emit an alert sound.
Are there options for financing and purchasing FocalPoint - VitalSign ‘As a Service’?
We can offer purchasing options ranging from Capital & Operating Leases to Perpetual ‘As a Service’ subscriptions through qualified Diversified AV Equipment finance partners. Subject to credit approval on a per client basis.

How many firmware upgrades will be published by Aurora within a 12-mo. period?
We would expect to batch SW and firmware updates on a quarterly basis at minimum after sandbox testing for QA with DMG’s IT Engineering team. Security related updates would be pushed as required based upon risk levels.
Do these units support battery power when unplugged from the 12V power supply? If so, how long does the battery last for?
There is no Battery included with VitalSign. We do have a recommended battery powered APS solution that can support continuous operation for between 14 – 24 hours between charges, depending on VitalSign model.
Is there a Network-disabled version available for environments such as State, Federal Government entities and their contractors?
Network-disabled versions can be produced upon order, subject to a minimum order quantity to be determined. End-Users can always elect not to connect to their network if desired, but this will limit Diversified’s capability to remotely support and upgrade devices.
Is VitalSign TAA compliant?
VitalSign is TAA compliant, the units ship FOB Hong Kong. If TAA compliance is required, we can accommodate with advance notice and MOQ’s due to requirements for more 50% assembly outside of China. We can produce part of it in Taiwan and finish assembly at Aurora. TAA compliant units cost us more so we would require an order of 1000 units or higher of TAA specific. It may increase lead time and there may be a slight cost increase.
What is the Country of Manufacture?
Aurora Multimedia’s partner Company is based in Hong Kong and their factory is in China. VitalSign’s Firmware code is loaded at Aurora Multimedia as the build is unique and proprietary to Aurora for their TTS models.
