The Steady Transition from HD-SDI to IP Routing
Two years after the formalization of SMPTE ST 2110 standards, numerous broadcasters, big and small, are beginning to see the benefits of investment. Largely driven by real estate moves and HD-SDI equipment nearing end-of-life, broadcasters across the globe are moving to an IP model for content routing and switching. To explore the integration side of things, TVNewsCheck recently interviewed Diversified’s VP and GM of Emerging Technology & Solutions, Jason Kornweiss and Chief Technology Officer, Karl Paulsen.
In the article, Jason explains that manufacturers themselves are motivating the change with internal emphasis on the IP space rather than maintenance of HD-SDI gear. And though HD-SDI equipment is far from disappearing, the cost to maintain these parts in the future may outweigh the upfront investment in an IP infrastructure overhaul.
