State-of-the-Art Digital Cinema System Installation for Historic Aircraft Carrier Turned Museum

Diversified was contracted to install a state-of-the-art Digital Cinema System including an audio visual control room located within the historic USS Intrepid aircraft carrier. The aircraft carrier was commissioned for World War II in 1943. The ship went on to serve as a primary recovery vessel for NASA and was also sent to Vietnam. It is now a national landmark located at Pier 86 in New York and hosts many great attractions.

The Cinema includes HD video recording and playback, surround sound, plasma displays, an automated control system, paging system and a large screen theater. Diversified worked closely with an AV consultant to maximize system design value. Once the design was finalized, Diversified provided all equipment as well as on and off-site fabrication and installation services.

The theater has a custom built speaker cluster located behind the projection screen. The screen was fabricated with an array of microscopic holes to allow sound to pass through it with minimal-to-no masking.

Special Points of Interest:

  • The Digital Cinema houses a 33-foot diagonal projection screen.
  • The projection screen was designed with microscopic holes to allow sound to pass through. There is a large custom built speaker cluster located behind the screen.
  • The projector has a light output of 12,000 lumens.
